Metal storm shelter plans1/6/2024 THE IMPORTANCE OF QUALITY IN STORM SHELTER ENGINEERING Our standard tornado shelter includes staircases, bench seating and ventilation. The units pictured below are common storm shelters available in every size (ranging from 4×8 to 10×50). These shelters sit below the earth\’s surface and are the SAFEST option in a tornado or extreme weather. With our steel shelter there is also no unsightly 3ft hill in your yard. There is no worrying about typical issues like corrosion, cracks, mold, moisture or collapses due to exposure to the weather and earth. Our steel storm shelters are coated with rubberized coating which stops corrosion guaranteeing the shelter will last for generations. The flexible nature of steel makes it the perfect material to build underground structures from. Steel acclimates to the temperature of the ground by expanding and contracting slightly. You won’t regret it!ĬOMMERCIAL UNDERGROUND COMMUNITY SHELTERS You owe it to yourself and your loved ones to consider our shelters before making your purchase. No assembly required because the shelter was built specifically for you! Our product is at least 2 to 3 times stronger than most of our competitors. They are better engineered, better built and in most cases they are priced cheaper than their inferior competition. When we arrive at your home for installation, we simply unload your shelter as one solid structure and bolt it to your foundation. We also weld our products instead of using bolts that could potentially be points of failure. This is approximately 2 times thicker than the pre-fab bolt-together shelters and this translates directly into strength. In contrast to many of our competitors selling above ground shelter solutions that have thin, pre-made, bolt-together sections all of our shelters are all custom built to order, using thick 1/4″ plate steel and 1/4″ steel tubing. We have a wide range of sizes available or we can build you a custom sized shelter if you don’t see something that works for your specific situation. That’s why we also offer products for above ground safety and security. Factors like not having enough space available for installation, or soil conditions that increase the cost of installation and aren’t ideal for underground shelters. There are a number of factors beyond the cost that can prevent someone from having an underground shelter. We know that having an underground shelter isn’t always feasible. Cyclic Wind Pressure Loading Test (TAS 203, ASTM E1886/E1996, and ANSI A250.ABOVE GROUND SHELTERS: CLICK HERE FOR PRICING.Uniform Static Air Pressure (TAS 202, ASTM E330, and ANSI A250.13).Steelcraft products are in accordance with ANSI/SDI A250.13 Testing and Rating of Severe Windstorm Resistant Components for Swinging Door Assemblies for Protection of Building Envelopes, the Florida Building Code (FBC) and the South Florida Building Code (SFBC). Steel hurricane-resistant assemblies can resist winds from 110 to 170 miles per hour. For example, a wind speed of 170 mph produces a design pressure of +49/-53 psf. Then they are rated with a “design pressure,” which is different than wind speed. These specialty door assemblies are tested with the positive and negative pressures that occur in hurricanes. Steelcraft offers a wide variety of hurricane certified doors and frames. In response, many coastal regions have adopted strict building code provisions intended to enhance the structural integrity of commercial buildings. The United States is increasingly struck by hurricanes that inflict loss of life and property damages in the billions of dollars. It is recommended to have a pre-installation meeting with the contractor, specifier, door supplier, and installer to discuss the installation. Proper installation of tornado doors is critical. These components include the frame, door, hinges, anchors, and latching hardware. Tornado assembly components are approved and certified as an assembly and cannot be mixed and matched.ICC 500 is the Standard for the Design and Construction of Storm Shelters. ![]() ![]()
